Olympic open water swimmer and Champions Celebrity client Jack Burnell has been announced as an ambassador for Swim Serpentine, a new two-day open water swimming festival which will take place at London’s Hyde Park on 24-25 September 2016.
More than six thousand swimmers are expected to swim at the event, starting off in 18 different waves, and to promote the occasion, Jack visited the Serpentine this week to check out the water and encourage swimmers nationwide to enter the mass participation mile on the first day of the festival.
“Open water swimming is the best and I encourage everyone to have a go,” says Jack. “It’s certainly beats grinding out laps in a pool. I love the freedom of it. There’s no constraints with lanes and lane ropes. One mile is the perfect distance for a first open water swim and the sense of being in touch with nature brings a whole new dimension to swimming.
“Everyone’s a bit nervous the first time but it’s the same for everyone. We all have had to struggle to get on a wetsuit. I promise you the sense of achievement will be amazing when you finish that mile. There’ll be six thousand smiling faces here in September.
“The Serpentine is a beautiful lake and, of course, it was the venue for the open water swimming during London 2012. I can’t wait to come back here after Rio and swim. I hope thousands of people join me.”
