Endurance athletes, running enthusiasts and health aficionados will be putting months of training and preparation to the test this weekend as the Virgin London Marathon gets underway in the capital.
The biggest race in the British marathon calendar, it is expected to draw approximately 38,000 runners, with hundreds of thousands of people watching from the sidelines and millions more across the world following on television, online or on the radio.
As someone who has worked with several of the world’s top athletes and sportspeople, motivational coach and Champions Celebrity client Pete Cohen is well versed in dishing out advice on how to prepare physically and mentally for challenging sporting events such as the Virgin London Marathon.
Pete was invited as a guest speaker on BBC Radio Scotland’s Personal Best programme, which aims to give advice on how to overcome adversity and reach your goals.
The show, hosted by Gillian Russell and broadcast at 1:30pm on Monday 18 April, saw Pete share his tips on how to prepare mentally for a challenge like a marathon, and explained how these skills can be applied to the hurdles we face in everyday life.
Pete, whose new book Why Am I Not Losing Weight? is out now, said: “When someone conquers or survives a challenge, whether it's a sporting event or a life challenge, they begin to understand their strength and find the confidence to perhaps take on something else. The key is to get the support you need around you.”
From Monday to Friday (at 7am) Pete does a motivational live broadcast on Periscope. More details about Pete’s daily live broadcasts, plus all Pete’s previous broadcasts, can be found at www.talesofalifecoach.com.
