An inspirational sporting personality, ‘Big’ Joe Egan is one of Ireland’s most loved boxing figures. Learning to box from the young age of 10, Egan fought his first fight aged 12 against junior champion Steve Collins. Jack began to train hard, racing through to senior level within years. Travelling to the USA aged 17 with the Irish Boxing team, Joe caught the attention of heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson, who asked Joe to become sparring partner for a promising new boxer, Mike Tyson. Training with Tyson for two years, the pair have become lifelong friends.
With an impressive record of 80 wins and 7 Irish titles, Joe turned professional in 1990, winning his first two fights before suffering a serious car crash that stopped him from competing for many years. Joe made a return to the ring twelve years later, winning by technical knockout. Despite being offered a place on Mike Tyson’s undercard, Joe retired from the sport after declaring that he had faced the best punches in world and was never knocked down.
After boxing, Joe made a successful transition from ring to movie hard man. Appearing a number of independent films, Joe has most notable played ‘Big Joe’ in both Sherlock Holmes films of 2009 and 2011.
Since working with the Champions Celebrity agency, Joe has secured a number of personal appearances at events for high profile clients as well as working with him on a number of film roles.
