One of Britain’s most beloved actors, William Roache MBE holds the record for the longest running soap actor with his portrayal of Ken Barlow in ITV’s Coronation Street. Roache turned to acting after being called up for National Service, first appearing in TV series Skyport and Knight Errant. The last remaining actor to have appeared on the very first episode of Coronation Street, Roache received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British television Soap Awards in 2000.
